John clearly saw the Lazarus event as the last great deed Jesus performed as proof of his divinity before his arrest and crucifixion. John 11:38-44 English Standard Version Jesus Raises Lazarus 38 Then Jesus, deeply moved again, came to the tomb. Preparation Prayerfully study John 11:146. However, Luke’s account of this event is much briefer than John’s Lazarus story, and it happens much earlier in Jesus’ life. Jesus Christ Raises Lazarus from the Dead Lesson 28: Jesus Christ Raises Lazarus from the Dead, Primary 7: New Testament (1997), 9597 Purpose To help each child understand that because Jesus Christ is the Son of God, he has power over death. In Luke 7:14-15, Jesus raises the dead son of a widow, with the wording of Luke (‘And he that was dead sat up’) being echoed by John’s ‘And he that was dead came forth’. Accomplishments of Lazarus Lazarus provided a home for his sisters which was characterized by love and kindness. Lazarus served as an instrument for Jesus to provide indisputable proof that he was the Savior. Whatever the truth of it, there are examples elsewhere in the Gospels of Jesus raising the dead. The account of Jesus raising Lazarus occurs only in the Gospel of John, the gospel that most strongly focuses on Jesus as the Son of God. The raising of Lazarus or the resurrection of Lazarus, found only in the Gospel of John (John 11:144), is a miracle of Jesus in which Jesus brings Lazarus of Bethany back to life four days after his burial. It’s possible (as the authors of the Dictionary of the Bible suggest) that John is expanding the parable of the rich man and Lazarus from Luke’s gospel (in which Lazarus, the humble beggar, goes to heaven but the rich man does not).

But only John mentions the story of Jesus raising Lazarus (the other one) from the dead. Luke (chapter 16) tells of Jesus’ parable of the rich man and Lazarus, but this Lazarus (a beggar) isn’t the one whom Jesus raised from the dead. Once upon a time, there were three siblings named Lazarus, Mary, and Martha. For the original version, please refer to the Bible passage. They appear to have been different people. Jesus Raises Lazarus 42 I knew that You always hear Me, but I say this for the benefit of the people standing here, so they may believe that You sent Me. This is a simplified version of the Bible story found in John 11:1-45, written for children to understand.
